A NOTE ON DIVERSITY, EQUITE AND INCLUSION
It is an absolute non-negotiable that my students are welcome in my classroom regardless of identities, backgrounds, and beliefs. I will not tolerate a position that is against that notion. Students and parents are welcome to their beliefs provided they do not incite or encourage actions designed to exclude others. The right to inclusion and equitable treatment is unalienable, and I will make it my mission and goal to uphold that unalienable right for every student. I also pledge to create a feedback mechanism with optional anonymity in which students may provide constructive comments on my actions. Equity and inclusion are not finish lines to be crossed. Their goal posts are always in front of us. It is our duty to be constantly reaching for them and to remember that crossing the finished line of one race involves starting the next one.
Additionally, diversity is important in the music classroom. This isn't only in the people who make it up, but it is also in the subject we study. It is important to represent a variety of composers and performers in the classroom. Kids have a right to see themselves in music. There are countless composers with even more countless works of art. I have a responsibility to expose my students to a diversity in style and a diversity identity.
ALL ARE WELCOME!!!
